This is the all electric Hyundai IONIQ
While its squared-off lines and sharp angles make the Hyundai Ioniq 5 one of the most visually arresting electric cars on the market, the Ioniq 5 is also designed to compete with vehicles like the Volkswagen ID.4 and the Ford Mustang Mach-e.
Although it may appear like something out of a late 1980s video game, this hatchback has more going for it than meets the eye. It seems smaller than it is, but it's the size of a family SUV, so there's plenty of capacity for passengers and their belongings.
The inside is just as stylishly sleek as the outside, following the idea of futuristic minimalism. Two big, high-resolution displays sit above the dashboard, and several other high-quality materials may be found throughout the vehicle. There may be a few details that fall short of the high bar set by the rest of the cabin, such as the odd button here and there or the 'gear' selector up by the side of the steering wheel, but on the whole, this is a really luxurious interior.
Sustainability
Although it's common knowledge that EVs are the future of sustainable transportation, Hyundai has taken things a step further with the IONIQ 5 by making innovative use of eco-friendly materials within the vehicle. For instance, PET bottle fibres are reused to create the seat upholstery. Sugar cane and maize starch derived biocomponents were employed in the production of the car's upholstery, headliner, and carpet. Flaxseed oil is used to colour the leather panels of the IONIQ 5, while bio paint made from rapeseed and maize oils is used to finish the doors and crash cushions. Additionally, HDPE paperette, which is 100% recyclable, is used for door trimming (high density polyethylene).
In a nutshell, it has cutting-edge exterior styling, a cutting-edge cabin, ultra-efficient charging, a sizable range, respectable performance, and eco-friendly credentials. Hyundai successfully transformed a Pony into a time machine. In other words, Doc would be pleased.
Manufacturer-supplied range ratings for the IONIQ 5 are unavailable until WLTP homologation is complete.
Test results from a Hyundai, for reference. Charging times will vary based on variables such as the temperature, condition, and age of the battery, the surrounding temperature, and the available power from the charger. If the battery's temperature triggers safety features, charging will take longer in cold conditions. See the Charge myHyundai app or chargemyhyundai.com/web/hyundai-gb/map for information on the locations of ultra-fast chargers in your area. Northern Ireland lacks access to ultra-fast charging infrastructure.
Design
I believe it was reported that the IONIQ 5 took home the title of World Car of the Year. At the same awards ceremony, Hyundai's CCO was honoured as the World Car Person of the Year. The IONIQ 5 is comparable to the Lamborghini Murciélago, the Bentley Flying Spur, and the growth of the premium Genesis brand that is all in Luc Donckerwolke's design portfolio. With the debut of the heritage-inspired Concept 45 EV at the 2019 Frankfurt motor show, the South Korean automaker revealed the first glimpse of what they had been working on, which was inspired by Giugiaro's 1974 Hyundai Pony Coupe. The final IONIQ 5 keeps that familiar vibe while delivering a sleek, modern appearance. It wasn't like I wanted to treat this automobile like any other," Donckerwolke said. By drawing inspiration from Hyundai's past, I want to give the automobile a modern feel while yet paying homage to the brand's rich heritage. By combining classic styling cues with cutting-edge engineering, this automobile has become a modern classic.
Charging
You haven't heard anything yet if you thought the IONIQ 5 was too smart. The cutting-edge battery technology may be charged with 800V, as opposed to the more common 400V. Therefore, the IONIQ 5 may be charged from ten to eighty percent in as little as eighteen to thirty-six minutes** when connected to a 350kW ultra-fast charger (unavailable in Northern Ireland). And that's not all; the enchantment continues. When the IONIQ 5 is connected to a charging station, the vehicle's battery will be heated and conditioned automatically to provide the best possible charge. Real-world charging performance is enhanced by adapting to climatic conditions. The IONIQ 5's battery may also be utilised as a massive power pack thanks to its cutting-edge vehicle-to-load (V2L) technology. Simply connect an electric item (laptop, TV, or even a Jacuzzi) to your vehicle's power outlet.
Performance
The new IONIQ 5 offers a selection of two batteries, three power outputs, and two- or four-wheel drive. The base 58 kWh battery can propel you from 0 to 62 mph in a respectable 8.5 seconds and provide a range of up to 238 miles* when connected with the 170 PS motor that drives the rear wheels. When paired with the larger 77.4kWh battery pack and the rear-wheel drive 228 PS motor, the 0-62 mph time may be reduced by almost a second and the range can be increased to as much as 315 miles*. In contrast, when you upgrade to the highest configuration, things become exciting. You'll still get the 77.4kWh battery, but with the addition of a second electric motor, your output will increase to 325 PS, and you can even have it with Hyundai's trademark all-wheel drive HTRAC system, which boosts acceleration, stability, traction, and fuel economy. That's right, you can get up to 298 miles* of range, produce immediate power, and reach 62 mph in only 5.1 seconds. Although we have not yet measured it, we anticipate that the 2023 IONIQ 5's peak speed will be a respectable 115 miles per hour. In addition, a heat pump is now available, which is more energy-efficient than the traditional high-voltage battery since it regulates the temperature of the cabin's air conditioning and heating. That is to say, it offers unrivalled convenience without sacrificing effectiveness in any way. Smart frequency dampers strengthen the front and rear suspension, resulting in a smoother ride and better handling.
